Midwest Mom who will never stop advocating for the epilepsy community.

My journey with epilepsy began at the age of 16 with my first seizure, but it wasn’t until I was 22—just four months into my marriage—that I experienced my second seizure. That moment changed everything. After a series of tests, I received a diagnosis that I didn’t fully understand: epilepsy.

At the time, I knew nothing about seizures or the condition I now live with. I was scared and felt isolated, as I didn’t know anyone else with epilepsy. But instead of letting fear take over, I turned to research, diving into resources to better understand what was happening to me. I also began connecting with others in online communities who shared similar experiences.
Those connections and conversations inspired me to raise awareness about epilepsy and support others like me. I founded The Epilepsy Network (TEN), an online community where people affected by epilepsy can find resources, share their stories, and connect. I also started my blog, Rise Above Epilepsy, where I share helpful tips, personal experiences, and resources to empower others navigating life with epilepsy.
For over a decade, I’ve been dedicated to advocating for the epilepsy community, sharing my journey on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, X, and TikTok. Through this work, I’ve found my purpose: to educate, encourage, and inspire.
Kind words you would like to share with a parent or someone newly diagnosed:
“If I could share one piece of advice with someone newly diagnosed, it would be this: Never be afraid to ask for help. Lean on your family, friends, and even online communities. You are not alone in this journey. Together, we can rise above epilepsy.”
